Sharon Erichsen received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics, Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kwa Zulu Natal in 2011.
‘Shadow; light and dark; geometric pattern and repetition are a constant source of inspiration and are translated into my porcelain pieces through mark-making, surface perforation and cut-out forms.
Each piece is individually handmade by coiling and/ or pinching the clay to create an organic form for surface exploration.
I use a variety of mark-making techniques to create surface narratives inspired by my photographic images of trees, wild grasses, and interesting geometric elements in the urban environment. The images are pared down to basic line, capturing the essence of the image.’
